Program

Master Gardeners are the Virginia Cooperative Extension volunteer organization extending horticultural and environmental outreach across the Commonwealth and providing unbiased research-based horticultural information to residents.  This MG Hour Requirement Flyer as of 2022 provides an overview of the training and participation required to be a NRV Master Gardener

Community Involvement & Volunteerism

NRV Master Gardener volunteer activities include:

  • providing horticultural information to citizens who call or visit Extension offices
  • conducting in-school gardening projects
  • educating the public in community gardens
  • holding plant clinics and Extension information booths
  • presenting seminars and workshops on a variety of gardening interests

The New River Valley Master Gardeners are an exciting, fun, and educational group who don’t mind getting their hands dirty to support the community! Skills learned during the VCE Master Gardener Training Course help Master Gardeners not only in their own gardens but when assisting others as well.

New River Valley Extension Master Gardener Program Mission

  • to share knowledge & empower communities
  • respect the environment, each other, & those we serve
  • be wise stewards of resources
  • be accountable to our organization & community
